I am not going to write a long post today, but I wanted to share a few shots from my latest roll of Ilford hp5 plus 400.
This roll was shot over quite a long period. I loaded it at the end of a Paris trip back in September last year, brought it with me for a rainy weekend in Torino, and I finished it in Florence during spring, where I just captured random stuff in order to have it developed as soon as possible.
When I look at these images, I realize how they are quite typical for me.
I have a series of subjects, which I keep coming back to (don’t we all?) and of course even more so, when I “just” need to finish a roll, in order to have it developed.
When I shoot film, it happens quite rarely, that I shoot indoor and even less so in my own home. Of course I will sometimes capture my daughter or our two cats, but that’s about it.
The only exception from this is when I buy fresh flowers. It doesn’t happen very often, but I do love tulips, and sometimes in spring I will get them from my local supermarket.
I love their shapes and softness, especially after a few days when they begin to hang a bit, and I particularly love to capture them in black and white.
I also have a thing for benches, fences and nets, especially close ups, and even better if they are a bit broken or otherwise carry signs of decay.
My daughter plays football, so I see a lot of football matches during the year, and sometimes I will bring my camera and capture some details, while we wait for the game to start.
And then there is Paris… This one was shot at Palais Royal in September last year.
Last but not least, what may just be my overall favorite subject, at least when it comes to nature: Cactuses.
I love them so much. Both in color and in black and white. This one lives very close to my home, and I pass by it often, when I go for my walks.
What are the subjects, you keep coming back to with your camera?
Nice photos, Brigitte. I like when photographers choose black and white for flowers. It helps us see them in a whole other way. And I really like your conversation about the “things we have a thing” for. You are right; we all have a few. One example from me: I seem to have a thing for shooting through fences.
Oh yes! All these make great subjects. Great photographs, Birgitte!
