I thought, I would take a break from my photography journey posts in order not to become boring, and since it’s that time of the year, today I will dedicate a few words to my favorite scent - the scent of Wisteria.
Right now the purple Wisteria is blooming all over Florence, and I am fortunate enough to have several of them in the streets around my home.
To me the scent of Wisteria is the true scent of spring, and I can spend a long time standing in the street under the flowers just smelling them.
Our apartment has a relatively big balcony. Big enough for us to have a small table with two chairs and a hammock.
Below our balcony there is a terrace belonging to the neighbor house, and for the first many years here, it had a Wisteria so big, it almost created a roof over the terrace below us.
Back then I would lie in our hammock with a good book enjoying the first days of spring, while the scent of Wisteria would travel upwards and surround me in the most magical way.
Unfortunately the building and the terrace underwent renovation some years ago, and they removed the beautiful Wisteria.
The Wisteria blooms for a relatively short period of time, and the funny thing is, that almost every year I am surprised by its arrival. I forget that it’s about to happen, so every year around March/April, I will spot the first signs of purple, and I will say to myself: “Oh, right, the Wisteria!”
And suddenly it’s gone again. Way too soon. And I will have to wait another year before once again being caught by surprise and immersed in the scent of pure purple spring happiness.

Beautiful wisteria! While reading, I caught the scent...
As soon as the fragrance of wisteria fades, here in Liguria, the strong scent of jasmine arrives.
I also love the bougainvillea of the Cinque Terre. I have a photography project in mind, focused precisely on bougainvillea and the flowers of the Cinque Terre.
