Really enjoyed seeing your take on this project. I'm doing it in 2025 and hope to learn a lot!

I am so happy to hear that. I am sure you will learn a lot from the project. It's such a good excuse to try out new film stocks and to experiment.

Venice is definitely beautiful in black and white. If you ever go, make sure you wake up very early in the morning. It's the only way to capture the city without the crowds of tourists + it's even more magical in the early hours of the day.

Thank YOU for hosting it. It is such a great project! So far I am not doing it in 2025 though, since (as you will see in the coming post), I ran into a few problems on staying up to date with everything :-) But 12 months on film did so many good things for my film photography, and I really recommend all film shooters to try it out.

Oh noooo!! I'm sorry to hear that. 😬 It's okay to skip a month or two?? Im not doing it this year so I can focus on supporting others doing the project. If I can help with the project -- let me know!

Totally natural to feel stagnant in a city you’ve shot for 14 years. It feels like cheating, but I’ve found that using a new format/camera has helped me feel reinvigorated about my surroundings. Even if it’s swapping with a friend for a few days - the new gear forces me to look at the world in a different way.

Really love the shot from the Copenhagen botanical gardens!

I actually tried that this weekend. I mounted an old lens, which I had never used before, on a film camera which I rarely use, and I did manage to shoot a bit. But I also suspect that my newfound inspiration had a little to do with Substack, since this has been my first full week as an active "Substacker", and I really love the community in here. Thank you for commenting! Ps: The detail shot from the botanical garden is also my own favorite among these.

I agree, substack has helped motivate me, especially learning about new challenges like the one you participated in and: https://borgstijn.nl/rbnxplrng/

I do have a few lenses that I should try more - and I’m sure that I’d get some valuable shifts in my view from using them more. But I’ve gotten the biggest kick in the a** from using a 6x6 camera. The square format is just a whole new ballgame for me. It has forced me outside my comfort zone - and that’s priceless for me.

I want to shoot square format too! I talked about this in another note related to a post. I love the 1:1 ratio!

I know, but I am a kind of all or nothing girl when it comes to these things 🙂 But I might join it again later on and not necessarily starting in January. I think it’s great to start anytime and simply do 12 months from then and on.

Yes! Absolutely. Doesn't necessarily have to be January - January! Hoping you're able to join us later on and all the kinks worked out.

Good idea to visit a new city each month! My go-to B&W is Rollei RPX but def going to give kodak a try in the future. The photo you took in the stables is my absolute favourite! 😍

I don't know the film you mention, but maybe I should add it to my list of films to try. I'll look forward to following your analog journey. Thank you so much for commenting!

I agree with what you write, that you can find something to photograph in all places, but in my case I have been photographing my city (Florence) including my local neighborhood for fourteen years, so it's not so much a question of feeling, that there is nothing to photograph here (there is plenty). It's more a feeling of having already photographed it all (many times). But as I write in the post, I think it's a natural condition, and it has actually been a relief to just accept it, instead of forcing myself to try again and again. Thank you for commenting!
