12 months on film - part three
July-August 2024 + a few words on finding it difficult to be a tourist and a photographer at the same time.
This is part three of my series about the 12 months on film photography project, which I took part in last year. If you haven’t already, make sure you also read part one and part two.
As I mentioned in my previous post, after some months I started getting behind on the project, and my July roll ended up being shot mainly in August on a five days trip to Calabria in the South of Italy. I finished the roll in the beginning of September on a trip to Paris.
My choice for July was Kodak Color Plus 200 together with my Contax TVS. I had never tried this film before, but I have to say, it’s love at first sight. Beautiful and elegant colors with just the right amount of grain.
My favorite photos from this roll all happen to include water, but the colors were amazing throughout the whole roll. This is definitely a film stock, I will explore more in the future.
My choice for August was Ilford Delta 100 + Canon AE-1 Program. I shot the entire roll in Paris in September.
It is no secret, that I had expected more from a roll of black and white film shot in Paris. But it’s my own fault.
When I travel as a tourist, I don’t always take the necessary time for picking out the really good subjects, and I don’t concentrate enough on focusing on angles, framing etc. It happens so often, that I feel like I have to “steal” a photo here and there, because we have to move on. Maybe it’s also partly because I feel overwhelmed by being in a new place with so much to photograph. But it’s all in my head. No one is telling me to hurry up. It’s just me, and it’s really something, I need to be more aware of. I need to slow down!
As for the film itself, I think it’s nice, but nothing more. It’s almost a bit too perfect for my taste, and that’s probably one of the reasons, why I am not totally happy about these photos. Paris looks better with a bit of grain and a few imperfections. I find these a bit too polished.

Have you ever had problems with being a tourist and a photographer at the same time? Do you have any tips, you would like to share on how to best unite the two?
By the end of next week I should receive the scans of my last two rolls from the 12 months on film project, and I will then share the fourth and last post in this series.
Great photos! I definitely struggle with the balance. I wouldn’t really call myself a photographer, just starting to get into it as a hobby. But I also just feel bad stopping to take photos with my partner. Feels like I’m dragging her back during her vacation too!
Great post! Im really enjoying the Color Plus too at the moment!
