This is a great post, Birgitte. I can understand and relate with a lot of what you are saying. And I really like your photography. All your photos are great - but I especially really like your color work from Burano. It's spectacular.
Thank you so much, Tom. The Burano shots are among my personal favorites too despite them being so simple and technically nothing special. Colors always speak to me.
Beautiful photos, Birgitte. I really enjoyed reading about your photographic journey. I recognize many of the places-they are familiar to me too, like the dunes of Calambrone Beach. I also relate to what you said about wanting to become invisible behind the camera. I see so many unique faces in Italy, and I regret not being bolder and more at ease ...
Thank you so much! And I can't believe you recognize the dunes of Calambrone. It's not exactly the most famous beach of Italy. So funny :-) I too have missed out on many good photo opportunities because of my shyness, but I think I have come to terms with the fact, that it's just how I am.
Awesome that you have photos from that long ago and you still like them (as you should). I hope I can look back at my images in years to come and be proud
I am sure you will have plenty of photos to love. In my own case it's actually more about the memories of making the photos than it's the actual photos. Those first years with a newfound passion for photography are so special.
Your photos from back then really hold up, you should be proud and it seems you are. I’m loving reading these journey entries you’ve been doing, thanks so much for sharing.
Thank you so much for these kind words! As I write I also enjoy writing these posts very much. I think it's really healthy to look back at all the single steps on the learning curve.

Yes, you're right. In the end, we have to accept and embrace who we are....
My husband and I really enjoy trekking, and it was during one of our outings that we saw the dunes. What a beautiful landscape!
And what a nice surprise to "meet" a photographer from Italy on
Substack.
